Many of you probably don’t know this, but Fiera Race Team has a small (presently 6), but impressive contingent based in Ontario. This weekend, April 24th, is an important day for riders in Ottawa, because it’s the weekend of the Paris-Roubaix Cyclosportif in which Fiera Race Team member John Clare will be a first-time racer. This annual event will reportedly take riders over/through 73 km (update: course change puts it at 87.36 km with 365 metres of climbing) of “gravel, sand, sawdust, switchbacks, mudpits, potholes, rocks, washouts and, yes, smooth pavement”.
John is no stranger to riding fast on a mountain bike at the best of times; however, it wasn’t until last year that he started training seriously out of fear of getting his ass kicked (again) (editor’s note: BS) by his sister (Shari) on their annual mountain biking get-togeather. Last fall John decided to have a go at cyclocross, and found he was a natural, and although entering the series late, ended up winning the novice category of the local CX series. He’s been training this winter, and we expect him to have a great ride at the Paris-Roubaix Cyclosportif, and a great mountain bike season this summer. Check next week to get his race report from the Paris-Roubaix Cyclosportif!
