The last weekend of August promises to be a dramatic one for the FRT, with two big races coming up that could spell glory, or bitter defeat, for three of the team’s marquee racers.
First up, Shari and Joe will be racing in the Alberta XC mountain bike provincial championships in Hinton on Saturday. Shari is currently ranked #1 in the province in the Women’s Sport Category… but the points title is up for grabs with Boglarka Gyorfi (Spin Sisters) only 4 points behind. In the 2 races these two have gone head to head this summer, they have traded wins… so Saturday should make for an exciting battle. My only question: Can Shari get her head in the game, or will she still be distracted and star struck, daydreaming about grandpa Phil?
Meanwhile, Joe will be looking to follow-up on his breakout performance at the national championships of a couple of weeks ago… I predict a top 5 placing and puking at (and hopefully not before) the finish.
The same day will see Stefan competing in Ironman Canada in Penticton, BC. Stefan has been killing it all summer (see here, here, and here). Stefan’s own prediction is a sub 9h30min race — which, based on last years results, would put him up with the pros and claiming top spot in the men’s 30-34 yr. category.
Good luck guys.
