We made the drive from Ottawa to Haliburton today in the pouring rain. Forecast for tomorrow is for sun, but the trails will definately be wet enough to require a tire change tonight to some fatter, bigger-lugged suckers.
When we went to pick up our race packages tonight, Shari and Joe found out that they will be racing against Amanda Sin and her partner Kyle Douglas, both of 3 Rox Racing. Amanda finished second this year in the Canadian Mountain Bike National Elite Women’s category, while Kyle won Crank the Shield in 2009 as a solo man. Looks like we have our work cut out for us.
After picking up our race package and checking into the hotel for tonight, we headed to McKeck’s for our pre-race meal. Joint is owned by a former Maple Leaf, so hopefully the loosing ways doesn’t rub off on us. We all ordered “The Enforcer” burger: two patties, 3 kinds of cheese, 2 pickles, 2 kinds of bacon, a whole friggin onion, lettuce, and tomato. Only Shari’s mouth was big enough… If we run out of gas tomorrow, then we’re in big trouble (or we didn’t wash it down with enough beer).
